Abstract

The article examines the scientific and pedagogical foundations of developing media competence among future teacher-psychologists in higher education. The relevance of the study is determined by the rapid development of the information society and the increasing influence of media on students’ socialization, personal and professional development, as well as the processes of perceiving, analyzing, evaluating, and effectively using information. A modern teacher-psychologist should possess the skills to use media resources consciously, critically evaluate the content and quality of information, search for relevant information, and adapt it to professional practice. The aim of the study is to develop an effective model for developing the media competence of future teacher-psychologists through media education, implement it in the educational process, and experimentally evaluate its effectiveness. The study theoretically analyzes the content of the concepts of “media,” “media education,” “media literacy,” “media culture,” “critical thinking,” and “media competence” and identifies the motivational, theoretical, and practical components of media competence. The motivational, theoretical, and practical components of media competence were identified. The research employed scientific literature analysis, questionnaires, interviews, expert analysis of educational programs, assessment of students’ work, diagnostic and formative experiments, and mathematical-statistical data processing. The experimental results confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed model and specialized training course. In the experimental group, motivation to develop media competence increased from 87% to 100%, while the level of theoretical preparedness increased by 17.5% and practical preparedness by 9.8%. The findings demonstrate that systematic media education contributes to developing future teacher-psychologists’ competencies in working with media, critically evaluating information, and effectively applying it in professional practice.
