Abstract

This article explores the distinctive features of Sergey Yesenin’s poetic universe, focusing on the emotional-semantic complexity of his lyricism and the figurative-stylistic devices that shape his unique artistic system. The analysis reveals a spectrum of contrasting experiences in Yesenin’s poetry–from nostalgic melancholy for a lost childhood to a tragic reflection on historical upheavals. Particular attention is given to metaphorical constructions, authorial epithets, colloquial expressions, and neologisms, which contribute to the national color and emotional authenticity of his texts.

In his revolutionary period poems, such as Anna Snegina and Maria’s Cries, Yesenin attempts to comprehend Russia’s fate through a personal and mythological lens. The poet emerges as a lyrical subject situated between the old and the new world, striving for spiritual insight and artistic synthesis. His poetic style, rooted in dolnik meter and enriched with folkloric elements, reflects a deep connection to vernacular speech and cultural heritage.

Overall, Yesenin’s work represents a synthesis of autobiographical narrative, philosophical reflection, and artistic innovation. It offers an emotionally charged portrait of a transformative era and remains an integral part of the national literary canon. The study analyzes the elements through which the poet’s lyrical legacy offers an imaginative portrayal of the distinctive features of his contemporary era and lays the groundwork for the development of poetic creativity within the literary process of the 20th century.
